Question by bumbum♡: How to get rid of neck pain from headbanging?
I have really bad neck pain and a stiff neck. Now, I could deal with it but the problem is I’m going to a concert in 3 days and well… headbanging again with a stiff neck will be painful. Any way I can get rid of the pain beforehand?

i would say try a heating pad or something if the sort. also, stretch your neck before and afterward. and stop if it starts to hurt.

Ice it for 30-40min then run hot water on it for 30-40 min that usually works for me.

Hmm, maybe try putting a bag of frozen veggies/fruit…etc to it? Also, maybe invest in one of those neck soothers that like old people get, lol. Memory foam as a pillow would help, as well! My back is soar a lot, and it really helps it feel better just overnight.

When you did the head banging you tightened up the muscles in your neck and when they are tight they are in pain. To get rid of the pain you have to release the muscles in your neck and here’s how to do that:
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After 45 seconds, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Why not start at the root of the source of pain? But I guess people like to head bang to much to care. The things people do (no offense). I mean it can’t be healthy. In fact I know some stories about people really hurting themselves. Not to condemn. You can do what you want obviously.
Personally I don’t understand it. I love music and I’ve been playing kit for a long, long time now but never have I had the longing to jerk my head around. It’s more about listening carefully to the pieces for me. I do however understand and feel the emotional side of music and can see why one would be overcome.

Ice it, rest yourself, come back for more.

Turn your neck slowly from side to side, then rotate clockwise, anticlockwise for 10 times. Practise this in the morning, at lunch time and evening everyday.
Do not sit with the chair and table in front constantly for more than one hour and use a table lamp so that the neck is not bent for longer durations. Relax with both hands clenched with thumb under the chin for every one to two hours of work on the table.
Lie on your abdomen folding hands behind your back and raise your head slowly for 15-20 times. Do this every morning and evening.
Shoulders should be rotated slowly in the clockwise and anticlockwise direction.
Use hard bed without any pillows.
